Meet the Author at The Rescorla Festival: Celebrating Cornish Culture in the heart of Cornwall
As the year has progressed, I have evolved into a “real author” with everything that entails. In previous blog posts, I have written about my journey as an author, and news following the publication of Bitter Pill.
Today, I received a call from Australia from an old school friend! He wanted to tell me how much he enjoyed my novel. “I read it in 3 days and my wife couldn’t believe it because I’m not a reader,” he told me. “I’m so proud and inspired by you. I wish I had your talent.”
I replied that he does have talent — he is a songwriter, therefore he can write! He talked of how Bitter Pill gripped him and he’s singing my praises in Australia! I was delighted that Bitter Pill is being read and recommended in other countries! Who would have thought? This is what he posted on his social media:
I’ve just finished this book. It was written by a very dear friend of mine, whom I had the pleasure of knowing at school. Her name is Angela Judith Linney. She grew up in a working-class area of Birmingham, as we all did who went to Ladywood School and she’s done extremely well for herself. She is a lovely person and deserves the success that this venture and (hopefully) future ventures will inevitably bring her. ‘Bitter Pill’ is a riveting read. If you like a story with a twist in the plot…then go purchase this book. Well done Ange…as your family are undoubtedly proud….so too am I.
I was so delighted to hear from him, and happy to know that Bitter Pill captured his attention!
A few weeks ago, I received an invitation to be on an author panel at a literary festival, celebrating Cornish culture. The festival is happening this week on Friday 18th at 2.30pm at The Rescorla chapel.
Cornwall has always been a special place to me and inspired me to dedicate serious time to my writing. Before the publication of Bitter Pill, I featured in two Cornish anthologies with a group of Cornish writers, and this was where my published journey began — though I had a short story published many years ago, before life got in the way!
Cornwall Writers developed from a tiny group of newbie writers — with a love for the written word, and a desire to be published — into a huge community of over 350 writers and authors across Cornwall. With hard work and perseverance (and our amazing TJ Dockree who founded the group in 2017) we worked toward our dream and the first anthology was born! Misfits, Curiosities, & Legends was published in 2020.
Since then, the group has grown exponentially, and we have published three successful anthologies. Its success continues and has now combined forces with The Writers Collective and Hermitage Press!
