Happy First Birthday to this Website

One whole year of AJLInney.co.uk. I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for a whole year!

Today is the anniversary of when my website went live! Incidentally, it is also my eldest son, Dean’s birthday today, and I remember the joy of becoming a mother. I thought I was the luckiest person in the world. That was 42 years ago and over the years I have received the blessing of two more children, Adam, and Grace, and six grandchildren. I can’t believe where the years go!

I’m shocked that it’s been a year since I set up my author website, so I thought it only fitting to write a post about my journey so far. That is not to say I will not be writing about my journey as a published author — that will be on the anniversary of the publication date — but I wanted to write about other aspects of being a writer.

At the start of this part of the journey, my novel Bitter Pill was in the process of publication with Troubador and I had to immediately put on a marketing hat. This filled me with dread because that meant marketing Me! I was well and truly out of my comfort zone. To begin with, what could I say? I had only been published in three anthologies at this stage and didn’t consider myself a writer. I suppose I needed to see a book published with my name on the cover before I could believe it.

At the same time, I was working with a cover designer and corresponding with Troubador regarding the publishing process, so there was much work to be done.

Now I had a website to navigate and add content to. What on earth was I going to write about? Who would be interested anyway? Negative thoughts bombarded my brain like a repetition of song lyrics when you can’t get a tune out of your mind. I had no clue where to begin.

You need to start a blog. Write a blog about what? My old grey matter refused to respond, and my heart did overtime instead. To say I had many sleepless nights is an understatement. However, I wrote my first blog on 31st July 2024 https://ajlinney.co.uk/blog/1/

Forward the clock 12 months and I’m proud to say that I have written 10 posts and I have added a new category this month, about a subject dear to my heart: homeopathy. I will be devoting some time to this section as people have shown interest in my character Pippa, a homeopath in my novel Bitter Pill.

In addition, I have designed a newsletter — still a work in progress as I have yet to master MailChimp (the server of the newsletter), though I have sent two out so far.
And, I have learned some basic skills of website design.

As far as marketing on social media, I have put myself ‘out there’ and have a profile on LinkedIn as well as an older author page on Facebook (under Angela Evron — more about my author names and why I chose them in another post).

The last twelve months have been hectic, I have to say, but I managed to come through on the other side. I am busy marketing and writing constantly. I am also in the editing stage of my second novel Identity, which I’ll be sharing about in a future post.
In the meantime, if you want to learn more about the publication journey of Bitter Pill, you can find the posts under News, or All tabs and if you want to delve into homeopathy, my first post is under Homeopathy or All tabs: here:
