Media Interest for Bitter Pill
So what’s been happening with BBC Radio Cornwall And Female First?
I’m excited to say that I have had some media interest.
I have already been interviewed by Julie Skentelbery at BBC Radio Cornwall.
On The Day: Wednesday 21st August 2024
When I arrived, I was offered a beverage in the reception area while I waited to go through to the studio. The producer called me through and gave me a friendly prep chat, before introducing me to Julie Skentelbery.
In the studio, just before my interview, Julie played Sweet Talkin’ Woman by the Electric Light Orchestra: A blast from the past. The track is long enough for me to get seated and realise how much my nerves were jangling, just looking at the big blue microphone. In fact, I almost sat in Julie’s chair!
‘I don’t think you’ll want to sit there,’ she said, laughing and nodding at the on-air studio equipment.
Julie is such a lovely lady. She immediately put me at ease. We had a quick chat about the book and my nerves settled slightly.
All too soon, the song finished. My mouth went dry and adrenaline flooded my body. The time had come. Julie introduced me and I was on air!
What is she going to ask me? What if I stumble over questions? What if I get tongue-tied? And even worse, what if I freeze? These questions stormed my brain, but it was time to focus.
Just be you, I berated myself.
Well, I’m pleased to say I didn’t freeze! What I did was breathe a tremendous sigh of relief when the next tune, (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes, played. During this piece of music, I offered her a copy of Bitter Pill. As I started to sign it, the producer entered and asked if I would like to have a photograph with Julie. The very first signing of my book. Then, in my haste to escape the studio, I forgot to write a dedication. Ohhhhh, what a blunder! I’m sure she will forgive me.
